TWIGGY (2024) Cert 12A
Twiggy, Dustin Hoffman, Joanna Lumley, Paul McCartney. Directed by Sadie Frost.
Twiggy is a 1960s icon who needs virtually no introduction. But the story of her extraordinary rise from working class obscurity in Neasden to become quite literally the face of the 1960s remains fascinating and inspiring. (It was Twiggy too who unwittingly pioneered the concept of the single-word mononym two decades before the likes of Madonna and Prince). Actress and filmmaker Sadie Frost has already crafted one superb documentary about another icon of the 60s, Mary Quant (which we screened last year). Now she brings the same bright and bubbly observational approach to Twiggy's incredible story, aided immeasurably by the eponymous subject who shares her own views on her career with typical warmth and charm. Strong support comes from a stellar line-up of famous faces who crossed her path. The result is an immensely likeable trip down memory lane that will leave you with a smile on your face and a glow in your heart.
