The 15-year-old Lesia is plucked from her sheltered life and taken for her safety to the remote villa where her fugitive father Pierre-Paul is hiding out. He's a near-stranger, absent for most of her childhood, and she feels trapped by the secrecy and danger which defines his life. But when an assassination attempt sets in motion a chain of bloody vendettas, father and daughter are forced to go on the run together and test the true bond of their relationship. Julien Colonna's superb cinematic debut is a powerful coming-of-age story. In a cast of mostly amateur actors, Ghjuvanna Benedetti is exceptionally good as Lesia, slowly drawn into a brutal spiral of revenge that began with her father and grandfather three decades before she was even born. The whole story is seen through her eyes, and Colonna's main focus is on the gradual rekindling of Lesia and Pierre-Paul's long-forgotten familial ties. What does it mean to love someone who commits murders? How does a child reconcile love and fear? And above all, is it ever possible to escape from a cycle of vengeance?
