Organizer here... Thank you for your reviews!! They are very helpful for making the Joust better in the coming years.
I apologize for not having enough signage on the deck of the brewery, we will work on that next year.. but the sponsor section was actually quite small and at the food truck end of the fenced area labeled "sponsor only", and all of the rest of the deck outside Cahaba was open to GA wristband holders. We have to put the fencing up to keep non wristband people from standing there and watching the event for free.
We will definitely have a bigger sound system next year as the one we used clearly couldn't keep up.
We have taken lots of notes and will keep striving to make the Tall Bike Joust a great event for everyone!! Thank you so much for attending and stay tuned to our Instagram page (@athleticalabama) for jousting throughout the year!!
We look forward to this event every year, its a great way to kick-off the fall, and we always enjoy supporting a great cause. That said, I personally found the new setup a bit challenging. It was difficult to see the jousters unless you were in the first few rows, which made it hard to fully experience the excitement. My friends and I typically stand in the area that was designated as the VIP section this year, so it was disappointing to see that space mostly empty.
Audio was also an issue throughout the event — it was tough to hear the announcer, and several of our friends who participated in the raffle nearly missed their numbers being called. Unfortunately, we ended up leaving early and just spent time hanging out inside Cahaba, as it was hard to engage with the event the way we usually do.
That said, we really liked the new scoring system — it was much easier to follow and made a lot of sense.
I drove down from Nashville for Tall Bike Joust and I had the time of my life. The contestants went all out, the host was insanely entertaining and Cahaba was the perfect place to host. I'll 100% be back.
Great event! Great vibes! Well organized event!
Seating issues and viewability were actually worse than in previous years. The VIP section got even bigger and this time normal people couldn't buy tickets, it was only for sponsors. It was also the only place you could actually see if you aren't very tall or right up front. Maybe us normal people could get a chance one year to be up on the raised platform that is the deck at Cahaba so we can actually have a clear view of what's going on.
We were told by the organizers that these issues would be less this year and were quite disappointed to see that it was actually worse.
The introductions of all 16 riders took so long and were so far removed from when the bouts actually started that we forgot who was who. Why not introduce each pair of writers during their first round debut?
