If you love Ska music you will love the Ska Night event coming up at AFC Portchester.
Two acts will bring the Ska sounds alive in the clubhouse at The OnSite Group Stadium on Friday, May 22.
It promises to be a night of ska musical fun as the two unique groups perform songs from all eras of this popular music genre - from the original ska music in the early 1960s and the two tone British era from the late 1970s, through to the third wave music produced through the 1980s and 1990s and more modern day tunes.
The Ska Choir, part of the Southern Ska Collective scheme, have gained quite a following in and around the Portsmouth area since their formation back in 2019.
Their infectious blend of ska and reggae covers has proved to be a hit with their audiences. The group are all about making music, having fun, supporting each other and bringing pleasure and enjoyment to all.
The Southern Ska Collective provides a safe and supportive environment for people aged 18 and over, from all backgrounds, to get together to sing ska and reggae classics. There are no auditions and everyone is welcome to join in, whatever your ability.
The range of voices included in the choir means the music they perform really comes alive, and you won’t be able to stop yourself from dancing and singing along with them.
Joining them on the night will be Half Baked Ska - a ska singing group of ladies who are based in Portsmouth and they perform at venues in the city and surrounding areas.
The group is made up of five fabulous ladies - Julia Steele, Christine Carpenter, Chrissie Feltham, Joe Goodman and Emma Clark.
They have received rave reviews from some of their recent performances. One review said: “You got everyone in the mood to party! We appreciate how positive you guys were and of course you also sounded amazing!”
Another reviewer commented: “We all absolutely loved your set! The energy, the harmonies, the look, the moves, the song choices - everything was just spot on.”
The people of Portchester have been treated to a performance from Half Baked Ska very recently. The group performed in Portchester Precinct as part of the popular monthly Flo’s Market event back in January.
Doors open at 7pm for the Ska Night event in the clubhouse at The OnSite Group Stadium. Hot food will be available for purchase from 9pm.
