Learn to salsa and meet other queer folks! At 8 pm, we'll kick off with a beginner Salsa lesson. (Doors open at 7:45) After, stay to dance and hang out. We'll be mostly playing Salsa and Bachata, but will throw in some merengue, reggaeton, cumbia, and more. All tickets above include entry to the social!
If you'd to join for only the social dancing, get social-only tickets here!
Our beginner lesson will be taught by Hanna (she/her). Hanna has been shaking her booty since she was 12, dancing hip hop, contemporary, and jazz funk. She was introduced to Afro-Latin at SFU’s Latin Dance Passion (LDP) club, where she has been teaching since 2019. Hanna also serves on the QALDV Executive Team as our dedicated volunteer coordinator.
Do I need to bring a partner?
Nope, just your beautiful self! Our classes work on a rotational basis, so you'll get to meet other folks and practice your moves. Feel free to come on your own or with your queer friends + chosen family!
Can I come if I've never danced Salsa before?
Absolutely - We'll kick off with a beginner's lesson to help you dip your toes into Salsa! If you already have some experience, we welcome you to try out the other follow/lead role in the lesson or to support our beginners!
What should I bring/wear?
Bring a water bottle - we have a tap with cold-filtered water on-site. Come in comfortable clothing + shoes that don't grip the floor too much. (Salsa/Bachata involves raising your arms and turning.) Lastly, personal hygiene goes a long way, so some deodorant and gum/mint will make us a little more comfortable around each other!
What about the Bachata part?
While the beginner lesson is salsa, we'll be playing both salsa and bachata (and more) during the social! Our events currently alternate between Salsa and Bachata lessons.
