Description

In the late 1800-early 1900s, postcards were created and became popular via a confluence of photographic printmaking, the growth of the US postal system, and an ingenious gas station owner.

In this 3-hour workshop you will use photography and mixed-media to make your own postcards. Eden, now known as Bar Harbor, offers myriad iconic locations and views. Using smart-phone photography, a few tips and fun filters, participants will explore images from historical postcards and take a guided field trip to make their own. Each participant will leave with 6 custom, hand-made, ready to mail postcards!

Workshop includes:

  • A short lesson on photography with smart devices
  • Review + access to fun historical postcards from the BHHS archives
  • An excursion to historical landmarks in Bar Harbor
  • A lesson on mixed-media: combining historical images, new images and text
  • 6 custom-printed postcards to take home as memories or to send to loved ones
