NOTE: This course runs from July 23-26 from 9 AM - 12 PM with an hour break, resuming at 1 PM - 4 PM
This 4-day course will teach participants of all skill levels the basics of outdoor painting from nature with watercolors. We’ll build on drawing skills, establishing proper proportions, sighting space and distance and explore different styles of expression through color and composition.
During the week we’ll explore the Bar Harbor Historical Society campus and nearby areas of Bar Harbor and MDI to find areas with exciting landscapes, flora, architecture and even figures. We’ll be open to whatever subjects and styles people would like to investigate.
Paper, paint and brushes will be provided. Advanced participants are encouraged to bring their own field easels but lap painting will be the standard.
Each day will start with quick drawing to loosen up the creative muscles and examination of works by masters of the art such as Sargent, Homer and Wyeth. Each day will end with group discussion of progress and goals.
