House Special: RJ Walker x House of Words x Grand Rapids Art Museum

House of Words is taking the mic to the museum! 🎤🖼️

Join us for a special off-site edition of House of Words as we partner with the Grand Rapids Art Museum for an afternoon of powerful storytelling, creativity, and community.

This House Special event will feature a performance by nationally recognized playwright, poet, and interactive storyteller RJ Walker, whose work blends poetry, theater, and immersive storytelling in ways that challenge audiences to experience stories differently. From plays staged in ghost towns to dreamlike art exhibits and alternate reality games, RJ brings a truly unique creative voice. 

Alongside RJ’s featured performance, the event will also include the interactive open mic format House of Words audiences know and love. Whether you’re a poet, musician, comedian, or storyteller — all creative voices are welcome.

This event will also serve as the kickoff for a new monthly generative writing workshop launching in April, where writers will create new work inspired by art inside the museum.

When you arrive at the Grand Rapids Art Museum, enter through the main entrance and check in with Visitor Services at the front desk. A staff member will be happy to direct you to the event location for the Open Mic
