Celebrate the heart of Canadian dairy at the biggest cheese event in the country.
The Great Canadian Cheese Festival is a national event hosting Canadian dairy producers from coast to coast and is open to all ages. There will be cheese-tasting tutorials with beverage pairings, children's cheese-making activities, professional development seminars, wine, beer, live entertainment and the opportunity to tour Fort Henry (extra discounted cost).
More than a feast for cheese lovers, The Great Canadian Cheese Festival spotlights Canada’s top dairy artisans, empowering consumers to support local farmers and savor the true taste of home.
Saturday, May 24 (10am-5pm) - Sunday, May 25 (10am-4pm).
Come for the cheese, stay for the pure Canadian quality!
Lots of selections on some outstanding cheeses. Hope to attend again next year
The Great Canadian Cheese Festival was great! A very good selection of artisans cheeses and wines. The Quebec cheeses were excellent.
The only suggestion, I have is that the Festival needs to be more accessible for people with canes, and walkers. A flat area to and from the Festival and the Festival location as well.
Regards, Ross
Enjoyed variety of cheeses and wines presented and entertainment provided.
Found the exhibit tents very crowded. Possible having at least one more tent would have made more room for the vendors and improve movement of people.
The overall experience was fabulous. My only complaint was the location. Being down a hill and on uneven ground was disappointing. When advertised at Fort Henry, I believed it to be inside the walls on pavement. I went with another person who suffers from vertigo so it was a challenge for him. He enjoyed it in Picton with a sturdier ground.
Other than that, great varieties of food and drink and love the adorable welcome package. Great idea!
I was a little uncertain about the price but now I know what to expect and I would go again.
Endless samples of cheese, wine and other fun stuff! What a blast! Particularly enjoyed meeting some cheese makers, although most stalls were staffed by generic festival staff (some took more care to learn their products than other). Complimentary cool bag and wine samples glass were nice too
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at the cheese festival. Loved seeing cheese companies from throughout Canada. Enjoyed seeing chocolate, ice cream, toppings and cheesecake makers as well as bakeries.
Here are a few things we noticed.
1. Although we were not bothered by the location, we noted it was not an ideal place for someone with mobility issues, including the large hill, no stairs or ramp, and uneven ground.
2. We purchased a lot of cheese, and we wondered how the event was still $50. Especially as we did not taste any wine - could there be different coloured wristbands for wine drinkers or non-wine drinkers. We did eventually need a drink, and had to purchase water from a vendor at the bottom of the hill.
3. The cheese making workshop was $30. The leader was exceptionally knowledgeable and friendly. However, we expected we would be making the cheese, or at least trying it, or getting to take some home. None of these options occurred. Furthermore, we all stood for the hour watching some of the steps that went into making cheese. If this is simply a demonstration of cheese making, perhaps you could move it to a location with row seating, allowing more people to attend, and reduce the cost.
After sharing our day with others, we were glad to have attended, and hope our suggestions are appreciated. Several of our conversations have resulted in others looking forward to the next Canadian Cheese Festival.
Coming from Northern Ny for the day, we had a wonderful day at the Cheese Festival. Super nice vendors. The cheese selection was absolutely delicious and paired wonderfully with the wines to sample.
I loved it. Great price for everything . I will be back next year.
Great variety of cheese, wine and all things delicious! Music was great. Only complaint was the terrain, very difficult to walk on uneven ground.
Had a fun time. Great selection of wine and cheese to taste. Also a booth with wonderful bread. The garlic parmesan was particularly good. Hummus to try spicy but good and for dessert Canaloni. The music was a nice compliment to the event. When our bags were full we came upon "The wine stuff" accessories from wine corks, openers, a great wine glass holder to clip on any chair.
The only downside festival was accessed by going down a steep hill then uneven ground throughout. Upon leaving with heavy bags climbing back up. We were ok but very difficult terrain for any one with bad knees or mobility issues.
