Join us for plant and garden themed learning workshops at Smith-Gilbert Gardens! Each month is a different garden related topic with a hands-on component. 

Putting Your Garden to Bed- September 21st 10-11:30AM Location: Ben Robertson Community Center 

Fall is around the corner and temperatures will begin to drop. Have you prepared your Garden for the conditions ahead? Do you know where to start? This is a class all about preparing your garden for the upcoming winter, while we are in late summer going into fall. In this workshop you will learn the basics of winterizing your garden space. We will discuss pruning, soil testing, soil remediation, how to support pollinators and perennials over the winter, and more! For class, please wear garden work clothes and closed toe shoes. This workshop is led by our Horticulture Tech, Robert Davis.

Instant Bonsai: Pruning and Wiring- October 19th 10AM-noon Location: Ben Robertson Community Center 

So, you have a bonsai, now what??  This class will answer that question!  During this workshop get hands on practice pruning, wiring, and discuss future care and maintenance. Participants are welcome to bring their existing bonsai to wire and/or receive bonsai maintenance tips. This class is meant to be an extension of our Bonsai for Beginners workshop, but guests are encouraged to join regardless of if they attended the intro class or not! This workshop is led by our Horticulture Tech, Zack Aulbach.

Houseplants: The Indoor Jungle- November 16th 10-11:30AM Location: Ben Robertson Community Center 

Are you an indoor plant parent and have questions about the health of your plants? In this class we will dive into the world of indoor plants. We will discuss growing requirements as well as troubleshoot common problems like low light, pests and pathogens. We will explore diagnostics for these issues and useful tools and tricks to address them. Participants are invited to bring pictures of their houseplants to show off or diagnose as a group. This workshop is led by our Garden Manager, Hanna Young.

DIY Holiday Wreath Making- December 14th 10-11:30AM Location: Ben Robertson Community Center 

If you are looking to add a natural touch to your holiday decorations join us for a wreath making class. Participants will learn how to make and decorate a natural 12” wreath to take home with them. Dried materials from the garden will be provided to create and decorate wreaths, but participants are asked to bring their own ribbon. The timing of this class has been planned so that wreaths will still be fresh to display throughout the holidays! This workshop is led by our Garden Manager, Hanna Young. Fee: $30

Fee is $25 for non-members, $15 for members (please contact us for the code)
