Join WQLN PBS and Erie County Public Library as we screen the film Free For All: The Public Library from Independent Lens. After the screening, we'll have a panel discussion with local community leaders about themes in the film. This event is free and open to the public but registration is required.
About the film:
Free for All: The Public Library tells the story of the quiet revolutionaries who made a simple idea happen. From the pioneering women behind the “Free Library Movement” to today's librarians who service the public despite working in a contentious age of closures and book bans, meet those who created a civic institution where everything is free and the doors are open to all.
Free for All: The Public Library will premiere on WQLN PBS on April 29, 2025.

A worthwhile evening watching Free for all. The movie did an excellent job presenting the history of free libraries in America, their important contributions through history, and the threat to their existence and the loss we will suffer if they are lost. The discussion panel did an excellent job answering questions and leading the discussion with the audience.

My first time in our librarys auditorium! An Excellent movie! Was very interesting, educational, and also very moving. I had tears in my eyes various times, learning about the not so good history of this country in regard to the treatment of women, along with other races. I as a white person am so ashamed of the actions and mistreatment that was done to others by my race in the past. But the movie also showed how important libraries are to everyone. For the freedom to read, learn and a sade gathering place. I can't wait to watch lthe full movie on April 29th! Thank you very much for hosting this event, for free! I look forward to attending many others.
