An adaptation of Heinrich Böll’s novel, this searing account of a young woman destroyed by a tabloid press smear campaign was a high point of the New German Cinema movement. As vitally relevant today as it was in 1975, a time of collective paranoia over home-grown terrorism in pre-unification Western Germany. Her compelling lead performance made stage actress Angela Winkler a star.
