When a 4-yr-old girl accuses a 9-yr-old boy of assault the children’s parents, old friends, convene to talk about the matter ‘rationally’. Joel is ex-military and an aspiring politician, Bek his trophy wife. Danny is a liberal-minded journalist backing Joel, his wife Emily a documentary filmmaker. ‘There are two sides to every story, and then there is the truth’ is the prefacing statement to the film, and as the exchanges become more accusatory, shrill and threatening these four protagonists are swept up in a maelstrom that soon puts aside any niceties and leads to the subsidence of the very foundations upon which their comfortable lives are built.
A poolside chamber drama played out under a sweltering Melbourne sun, the tautly-structured script, agile cinematography and first-rate ensemble performances deliver a riveting first feature from director Michael Bentham. Based on an incident reported in the Australian press, the film opened up nationwide discussion of its highly-sensitive subject matter and was screened in the Australian parliament. Don’t miss this very rare chance to see Disclosure on a UK screen, and stay for the post-screening Q+A with the film's cinematographer Mark Carey.
‘One of the best Australian filmmakers we have seen in years‘ – Heavy Magazine.
‘A triumph of a feature film debut for the writer/director’ – Cinema Smack.
‘A blistering, confronting, independently made, issue-driven storm of raw, often excoriating verbal exchanges seething with passion, anger and hot-button topicality’ – jimschembri.com
‘A tense and consummately acted drama’ – The Australian.
‘…vividly cinematic throughout... It is staggering to think that this is a debut feature... Confrontational, unflinching and inconveniently truthful, you’ll be thinking about Disclosure for a long time to come’ – The Movie Waffler.
‘A unique, highly relevant gem, it marks the arrival of a talent to watch’ – Film Threat.
