“The Rita Deanin Abbey Art Museum is not just a space to view art — it is a venue where visitors can truly connect with the creative spirit of a remarkable artist.” ~ Laura Sanders, executive director.
Abbey dedicated her life to exploring and expressing the beauty of the Southwest through her art, a passion that defined the New Jersey native from when she studied at the University of New Mexico. Her diverse work, which she displayed at shows around the world, spans painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, porcelain, and stained glass, often drawing inspiration from the desert landscapes she loved.
Abbey moved to Las Vegas in 1965 to teach at UNLV, where she was among the first art professors. She remained there for 22 years, and the university honored her in spring 2024 by inducting her into the College of Fine Arts Hall of Fame.
The class was AMAZING! Nikola knows what she is doing!! I can't wait for the next, and the next, and the next classes ; )
Besides, the location is fabulous! I had wanted to visit the RDA Museum for a while and, finally, I did because of the class and was absolutely astonished by the museum itself and, but mainly, the artist's work. It's definitely worth visiting.
This museum is absolutely a hidden gem! It is such an inspiring space with beautiful art. My mom and I have participated in the yoga classes with Maureen as well as the sound baths with Terry and both are excellent! We leave refreshed and energized each time. The events are thoughtfully planned and everyone at the museum is kind and welcoming.
Beth was a great presenter and the class was filled with usual information. And the gallery was a great place to hold the class. I will be back to take a closer look at the art work!
I attended the Senior Yoga class with Nicole Scheerer on Sunday. I really enjoyed the nice easy flow and total body stretch she led us in doing. She was very good at cueing and took her time with each move.
After the class we had time to enjoy strolling around the museum. What an amazing collection of artwork and how interesting to see how it changed over the years. I really loved all the different mediums she used in her artwork.
The sound bath at the museum is a peaceful and relaxing experience!
Maureen’s yoga class is extraordinary! What a setting, too
Shared the event with Friends and this was my 4th Sound Bath. Each on is very different and each does get better and better. It is energizing and healing. Love Terri Thank you for hosting. Lora Levosky
