The film will be introducted by Beyond the Flesh series programmer Noah Berc, who will focus on on Barbra Creed’s The Monstrous Feminine, Modern Theology in horror and Voyeurism as a feminist theory
Set in 1970’s Montreal, Rabid (1977) follows Rose Millar, a young-woman who survives a heinous motorcycle accident by receiving an experimental surgery. Despite saving her life, the procedure has a few killer side-effects, including a new appendage and a contagious lust for blood. Filled to the brim with David Cronenberg’s notorious blood-chilling visual effects, this early entry on his resume paved the way for films like The Fly (1986) and Scanners (1981).
