Two widely different takes on the festive season.

DISNEY'S A CHRISTMAS CAROL - of the many film adaptations of Dickens’ 1838 cautionary tale, this one is remarkable for faithfully sticking to the writer’s original text, for its dazzling visual style (rendered in motion-capture animation), for its distinguished voice cast, for its terrific score and for being deliciously eerie (and sometimes genuinely scary!). Jim Carrey is outstanding as the voices of the ghosts of Christmas and of Scrooge (modelled on Alastair Sim's 1951 portrayal) and there's neither muppet nor mouse in sight! Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Bob Hoskins and Robin Wright lend splendid support to this treat of a movie which will look suitably spectacular on the big screen. It’s rated PG - very young and / or sensitive children might find it disturbing in places.

'A splendidly mounted and visually imaginative animated 3D version of the classic novel' - Derek Malcolm, London Evening Standard.

‘Disney's A Christmas Carol is a marvellous and touching yuletide toy of a movie, and the miracle is that it goes right back to the gilded Victorian spirit of those black-and-white films of yore' - Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly.

'A remarkable and effective adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic novel that manages to overcome the familiarity of its source material and become something more fulfilling' - Todd Gilchrist, Sci-Fi.com

'Zemeckis' film preserves much of Dickens' original dialogue and detail while amplifying the utter ethereal strangeness of the ghosts' - Amy Biancolli, San Francisco Chronicle

MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET - When their incumbent Thanksgiving Day Parade Santa is fired by New York superstore Macys and replaced by an old man who claims to be the one-and-only genuine article, confusion and incredulity ensue but sales soar! Child star Natalie Wood, in a very early screen role as the precocious young girl who insists on knowing the truth about Santa, almost steals the show from Edward Gwenn as Kris Kringle, the nursing home resident who sardonically expects everyone to believe he’s the real Santa Claus, and who ends up in court as his claim is put on trial. If your belief in Santa vanished long ago (shame on you…), then this endearing, stylish and very witty film should go a long way towards restoring your lost faith. Don’t miss this perennial treat – a leading contender for the best-ever Christmas film!

'It is light, it is charming, it is delightfully funny and completely captivating. It is all that, and something more' - Kate Cameron, New York Daily News

'The original (and best) version of the cockle-warming tale of a man who claims to be the real-life Santa Claus' - Time Out

'You want the spirit of Christmas? It's all right here' - Christopher Null, Filmcritic.com

'Decades after it was made, this fable, featuring Edmund Gwenn's Oscar-winning role as Santa Claus, remains one of the most enchanting Christmas movies' - Emanuel Levy, EmanuelLevy.Com

COME TO ONE, COME TO THE OTHER, OR COME TO BOTH!  Plus SEASONAL COMESTIBLES (ie mince pies), SEASONAL SHORT FILMS, SEASONAL RAFFLE!!
