Description
Built in 1833, the Historic SDG Jail served as a maximum- and minimum-security jail until it closed in 2002. Once known as the Cornwall Jail, it now welcomes visitors as the Historic SDG Jail—owned and operated by the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry. As one of the oldest facilities of its kind in Ontario, the jail stands as an iconic landmark and a stark reminder of a dark and unforgiving past. Designated a heritage site in 2001, the jail has been carefully preserved to protect its unique story, ensuring a captivating and educational experience for all who walk through its doors.
The jail has been open for season public tours since 2004 and continues to offer unique experiences and events for visitors. Please explore our website and follow us on social media for up to date tour options, rates, and special events!
Bookings are for guided tours only. Self-guided tours are available Wednesday – Sunday, 10am – 4pm *last admittance at 3pm. Tickets for sale at the door.
Recommended age of 12+ for tours.

It was a wonderful experience on how the jail was run in the hanging days. Also seeing how they lived in the small cells should of scared people into not doing bad things. Our guide was very knowledgeable and pleasant to have. Thanks for the pleasurable day.

Brooke was a knowledgeable young lady who seemed to enjoy sharing the stories and information about the historic jail. I would recommend taking the guided tour. If you are lucky enough to get Brooke as your guide it will be terrific tour.
