The meet was great. Getting into the event was frustrating and seemed disorganized. It would be great to be able to register on line to avoid the long lines and chaos. We enjoyed seeing all the kids and watching our son participate.
Beautiful venue. Next time the location should be supplemented with additional mobile restrooms. So many people were in line waiting for lengthy periods of time due to insufficient restrooms. Athletes needed to quickly use the restroom to get back to their event but the lines were so long with so few stalls. One more food vendor would have been nice as the better vendor (by far) of the 3 ran out of food before the event was over.
There were no signs to let you know which line was for athlete registration fees and which was for spectator entry. The lines were very long and moved slowly causing anxiety that you would miss your kid's event. That ended up not being the case because they started the 1st running event 40 minutes later than scheduled.
The event felt very unorganized from the beginning. After we were encouraged to pre-purchase our tickets they had one lady checking in all prepaid spectators, causing it to be a very long wait to get in. There was no communication for athletes on who should be checking in, Athletes waited in line for over an hour just to be told that the relay kids didn’t need to be checked in and they could just go in. They had our school listed under another town. At the check-in point, they were just told to go in and see what happens causing undo stress that we might not get to race. Once we were inside trying to set up, a pop-up for our team we were told by an event person that we could set up in one space then other team complain and were told by the same exact event person that we had to take it down after they said it was fine. Once the event started over an hour and a half late. The people running events seemed more concerned about the people that were standing along the fence than the athletes that were on the field. There was ridiculously long weights between each race or event, causing the event to be entirely too long. This event went till after 10 PM for elementary school students. I have been multiple track events and none have been run this poorly. I understand that some thing are out of the event a hands, but I think there could have been things done more efficiently to make your event run smoother.
Very poor planning. The athletes had to wait outside the gates because none of the runners bibs were ready to go, causing a significant delay. The organizers who were making “crowd control” announcements were rude and singling out people. It was two different women, and they specifically called out schools in making them move their canopies to the top of the stadiums. This is a completely understandable request, but it was done in such a disrespectful way. My daughter was to run in two events, the 4x400 in the morning, and the 4x800, the very last event. She was scheduled to run around 3/4,pm but the events were so outrageously delayed that she was told she was going to run between 8-9pm that night! Absolutely unacceptable! One other team members could not stay that late, as nobody would be home to pick her up when she was done, so my daughter’s school was forced to forfeit. She was upset and this was caused all by the poor organization!!
Facilities were great- there was plenty of space for spectators to set up a canopy and the bathrooms were cleaned regularly. Only facilities complaint I had was they they didnt tow all of the illegally parked cars in the actual parking lot. The two- lane parking lot turned into a one lane all the way around, and coming or going was a gamble. I’d be shocked to hear that none of those cars were hit.
This was overall a very disappointing event. Last years valley championships was not this poorly organized. It is understandable for events to be delayed, but not by 4 HOURS.
