The Historic SDG Jail was constructed in 1833 and was active until 2002, serving as both a minimum and maximum security facility throughout it's history. The Historic SDG Jail offers guided tours, where you will be accompanied by a knowledgeable tour guide. During the course of the tour you will visit the original courthouse, every cell block, the surveillance room, the exercise yard, the gallows and much more. Along the way, our tour guides will give you every bit of information they know and answer all of your questions!
Very nice experience!
I am still thinking of the surprising inhumane treatment of the prisoners in the yesteryear for minor offences even a few days after the tour .
Definitely worth seeing.
It was an interesting experience to learn the history of the jail. My only complaint was that it felt a little rushed. It would have been better if we had some time after the explanation, to go around and read the articles that were posted as some of them I could only glance at it. As the group was a little larger, and some of the rooms are smaller, you can't all fit in the room and see the items the guide is talking about, if you are near the back you have to wait till people clear the room, but when it becomes your turn they are off to another section. Didn't really have time to take pictures etc. Other then that it was fun.
It was a very interesting visit. Although our guide seemed a bit shy, he was able to provide us with interesting facts about the jail. We really enjoyed our visit.
The tour was a wonderful thing to do on a Saturday morning. The tour was great and lots of information.
Belle visite, très intéssant. La guide parlait français et on la sentait très passionnée.
